Hawkes Bay Homes and O’Briens Plumbing & Bathroom Hastings Rugby and Sports Development side took on Pōrangahau in a hotly contested Semi final.
Travelling down to Pōrangahau for a semi final was always going to be a hard fought battle after a tough loss in the round robin competition a few weeks back.The team travelled a lot better this time and started off well, although a few mistakes made in the first half saw an early lead to Pōrangahau. In the second half, Hastings fought back well with a couple of great team tries and an awesome display of teamwork saw a last ditch try to Jayden to tie the scores.
Going into a ten minute golden point period after eighty minutes, both teams came out with everything they had. This period was evenly matched and hotly contested. Pōrangahau missed a penalty attempt off the post and we missed a drop goal attempt by Junior Lomiata. So, the score line was still a draw at the end of the ten minutes. It came down to a HBRU rule that the team that scored the most tries wins – so Hastings winning with four tries to three during the match.
