Hawkes Bay Homes and O’Briens Plumbing & Bathroom Hastings Rugby and Sports Development side took on Maraenui in the Tom Mulligan Cup final at McLean Park.
The big dance was always going to be a hard game and coming into it with uncertainty on how Maraenui was going to play. On a great Hawkes Bay day the team was ready and pumping for the final. the first half was again a bit messy with a few handling errors and poor defence saw the opposition cross the line for a few soft tries.
The second half saw the boys pick up and showed there determination and resilience and clawed back with a couple of good tries; one to Enoka and one to Rav. The second half saw Maraenui’s front row go down and having to manage uncontested scrums hamstrung the forward pack who were all outstanding and showing real dominance.
Unable to claw back the team went down 24-12 and congratulations go to Maraenui on the day. With a great group of young men coming in and a few older heads the team looks forward to next year and building on the culture that was started this year.
