Hastings Rugby & Sports Development produced a remarkable second-half comeback to defeat M.A.C after a difficult opening 40 minutes.
The first half belonged to M.A.C, who capitalised on Hastings mistakes and raced away to score 24 unanswered points. While Hastings showed glimpses of promise with ball in hand, they were unable to turn attacking opportunities into points and went into the break facing a significant deficit.
The halftime message was simple – reduce errors, trust the game plan, and play the rugby they knew they were capable of. The response from the team was outstanding. Hastings dramatically cut down the mistakes in the second spell and played some of their best rugby of the season, piling on 43 points in a dominant second-half display.
The forward pack laid the platform with strong carries and physical work around the park, while the entire team showed great commitment on defence. Their improved discipline and ball retention allowed the backs to play with confidence and keep M.A.C under constant pressure throughout the second half.
A special mention goes to veteran Tusi Setu, who made an immediate impact after returning from a two-week injury layoff. Coming off the bench, Tusi powered his way to a well-deserved hat-trick and provided valuable experience when it was needed most.
The club also welcomed back club legend Ausage Fomai, who answered the call due to short numbers on the day. His return comes at the perfect time as the team prepares for the challenges of the semi-finals and finals.
The team now turns its attention to the business end of the season with confidence growing and momentum building at exactly the right time.
